Operators deny downturn in French market
Operators offering holidays to France are not experiencing the same downturn as Holidaylets.net, a property letting website.
Last week, Holidaylets managing director, Ross Hugo told TravelMole that he thought tension between the UK and France had depressed demand, but other operators are not experiencing similar slumps.
Owners in France, which offers independent holidays to France, told TravelMole it had experienced a 35% increase in bookings compared to the same time last year.
Owners in France manager, Liz Rodgers said: “We’ve seen a very positive year so far. Despite fears voiced by some that Britons were avoiding France the figures speak for themselves, and prove that not only are Britons still booking, but they are not afraid to do so independently.”
Ms Rodgers added that most of her clients travelled by ferry, which meant bookings were not subject to the same fears surrounding flying.
Other operators commenting on the story agreed. Iris Matthews, of Matthews Holidays said: “In recent weeks, and extra to brochure, we have increased the number of our resorts in France. We are certainly anticipating growth in our market to France – self drive mobile home holidays.”
Robin Gray, who works for an operator selling activity holidays in France said: “We have noticed no reduction at all in the number of UK visitors to the French Alps this year compared to last. It has gone up by 15% this winter season.”
As reported by TravelMole, the French Tourist Office said that while bookings were sluggish, it anticipates that France will hold its own in the British market this year.
