Preferred creates list of gay-friendly hotels
Â
Distribution network Preferred Hotel Group has created a listing of members who cater to the specific needs of the gay and lesbian market.
The company says it Preferred Pride group of almost 100 hotels “offers the extra level of reassurance many LGBT travellers seek†and deem themselves “gay welcomingâ€.
These hotels also ensure there is full equality in their employment policies and services and are active supporters of the LGBT community.
In order to become a member of Preferred Pride, hotels must be either TAG Approved (Community Marketing’s Travel Alternative Group) or belong to the IGLTA (International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association). Both organisations are universally recognized to set the standards for LGBT travel.
Preferred Hotel Group executive director leisure sales Rick Stiffler said: “Preferred Pride is more than just another LGBT seal of approval; the programme was created to unite Preferred’s diverse community of independent hoteliers around the world who are committed to the LGBT community.
“It is a global initiative that enables hoteliers to learn about and better understand the needs and preferences of the LGBT traveller.â€Â
The hotels offer diversity training and often appoint an internal ambassador who has done the training and will promote it within the property.
Training examples include providing bathrobes, slippers and toiletries for same sex couples; having a concierge who can provide a list of the area’s best attractions, dining and nightlife or just including publications within the hotel that acknowledge the specific guest’s interests.
