Queenstown open for tourists after flooding

Queenstown is open and ready to welcome visitors again, New Zealand’s top tourist town says.
It comes after heavy rainfall last week led to flash flooding, causing some residents to evacuate homes.
Flooding had impacted the town centre but the initial state of emergency was lifted at the weekend.
Some homes were damaged by debris and are being accessed, while some non tourist areas are restricted due to safety concerns.
Nearly all main roads have reopened.
Tourism operators are open for business and expecting numbers to return for the school holiday period.
Queenstown is famed for its ski trails, golf, and adventure tourism.
Destination Queenstown says the airport expects to handle over 40,000 international and domestic arrivals in the next two weeks.
The Remarkables Ski Area and Cardrona Ski Area have both received fresh snowfall.
Queenstown Mayor, Glyn Lewers said: “Guests to our town can be confident they will have a true Queenstown experience, despite the recent bump in the road.”
