Rail Europe creates online trade booking site

Wednesday, 25 Sep, 2006 0

Rail Europe has gone live with a new website aimed at travel agents and the travel trade.

The  www.raileurope.co.uk/trade site is described as a fully bookable solution to all rail enquiries from the travel trade.

Divided into sections, with straightforward navigation and relevant information, the site aims to become an online encyclopaedia for agents needing to answer client questions in a hurry.

As well as the booking area, which will allow agents to book cross border and domestic European train journeys, the site includes seating plans and onboard facility information for European trains. A ‘lifestyle’ section gives ideas and hints on things to do, regional gastronomic specialities and key phrases in French.

With a strong focus on destinations, agents will be able to look for information by destination rather than by carrier, making it easier to identify the services they require, according to a company statement.

Rail Europe’s head of sales Jane Dunham said: “This new website has been designed specifically with the needs of busy agents in mind. Travellers today are increasingly looking for alternatives to flying and as one of the most environmentally friendly modes of travel, rail is being considered by more and more people all the time. As an emerging form of transport for the UK market, it is essential that travel agents have up to date and accurate information at their fingertips. Adding www.raileurope.co.uk/trade to their favourites list will enable agents to visit one site to find all the answers to their rail related questions.

“Where agents would previously have needed to know that Lyria operate trains between France and Switzerland for example, they now only need to click on the interactive map on the homepage, to find details of the services available.”
