Research claims to dispel traditional view of Brits abroad
Six types of British traveller have been identified by Thomson Holidays’ research which claims that only a minority are sunburnt beer guzzlers.
But the study, based on a poll of almost 2,400 people this month, also showed that less than 10% make it a priority to get to know locals when abroad while 10% are self-confessed ‘British Bulldogs’ who want a slice of UK live in the sun.
Only one per cent want to get to know fellow holidaymakers when they are away.
The survey reveals that:
*24% of Brits are Glocals – Globetrotters, whose top priority is to get to know the locals wherever they are.
*22% are Tender Tourists who opt for eco-friendly breaks,
*21% are Met-setters who want hip boutiques and spas,
*15% are Wilderness Warriors who love roughing it in the great outdoors
*10% are British Bulldogs who want to soak up the sun by the pool and indulge in fry-ups
*8% are Action Superheroes who seek out daredevil adventures
Thomson sales and marketing director Miles Morgan said: “An era of vast choice and pick-and-mix holidays has enabled individuals to tailor trips around their personal tastes and develop itineraries which are uniquely suited to their personality.
“This study has helped us to understand what customers want from their holidays and ensure we satisfy all tastes – be it the British Bulldog who enjoys the comforts of a home from home or a Met-setter who wants a slice of luxury and indulgence.”
