Responsible Tourism ‘Most Ambitious Programme’ at WTM

WTM will deliver its most ambitious programme ever of sustainable tourism related events at ExCeL London this week.
Responsible tourism highlights will occur on 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th November, although the main focus of events will be on Responsible Tourism Day on Wednesday 11 November.
The extended programme of stimulating, inspiring and educational debates, presentations, seminars and speeches has particular significance this year. "The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December, immediately after World Travel Market puts renewed pressure on the international travel and tourism industry to play their role in one of the most challenging problems the world has ever faced", said Fiona Jeffery, Chairman of World Travel Market.

At the UNWTO Ministers’ Summit, on 10 November, the keynote session is entitled ‘Roadmap for Recovery: Sustainable tourism in challenging times’
WTM World Responsible Tourism Day on 11 November will include keynote events, hosted by Stephen Sackur, presenter of HARDtalk, BBC World’s flagship news and current affairs programme, starts at 10.30 hrs at ExCeL London’s Platinum Suite 4 .
This is followed by presentation of the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards, in association with responsibletravel.com, Winners are judged from a record number of 580 organisations, individuals and destinations worldwide.
At midday, Peter Long, Chief Executive of TUI Travel will be in the Hot Seat, interviewed by Sackur about the operator’s commitment to responsible tourism. In the afternoon there are two major panel debates on climate change and making better places in which people live. The day concludes with the WTM World Responsible Tourism Day Networking event.
On Thursday 12 November, World Travel Market is staging the second one-day conference on ‘The Business Case for Responsible Tourism’. Attendance fee is £195 + VAT if pre-registered; £235 + VAT on the day. Chaired by Professor Harold Goodwin, Chair of Responsible Tourism Management and Director of International Centre for Responsible Tourism, Leeds Metropolitan University, the conference features some of the world’s most respected responsible tourism experts.
