Royal Caribbean has inked a multi-year agreement with the Bahamas with a goal to increase tourism and career prospects for local people.
Signed by Perry Christie, Prime Minister of the Bahamas and president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Michael Bayley, the partnership will see the line invest in hospitality training.
It will ‘provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge to help them develop valuable and marketable hospitality skills,’ according to a release.
Training courses will be developed by the cruise line to arm students with the skills needed for a career in the cruise and hospitality industry.
The line says it is committed to hiring Bahamian nationals over the next five years.
Our commitment to The Bahamas is multi-fold. It is our responsibility to contribute to the country’s economic diversity, to its employment base and the training of Bahamian youth as well as the protection of the environment. We are excited about the continued growth of tourism in The Bahamas, and look forward to doing our part to keep that growth and progress moving along in the years to come," Bayley said.
Royal Caribbean also confirmed more investment in Bahamian private island CocoCay which includes the construction of a new pier and additional amenities.
