Ryanair demands ATC boss quits

Ryanair has led the call for NATS CEO, Martin Rolfe to resign if he can’t immediately solve the air traffic control staffing ‘shambles.’

The airline is adamant it won’t cancel any scheduled flights despite a flight cap imposed at Gatwick airport.

Ryanair called on the CAA to intervene and protect passengers from further disruptions.

“It is unacceptable that NATS are still not adequately staffing UK ATC with thousands of passengers unnecessarily suffering delays,” the airline said.

“This follows years of NATS mismanagement causing unnecessary disruptions.”

The airline says it pays NATS almost €100m annually. for air traffic services.

The flight cap is caused by NATS staff shortages due to sickness for the next few days.

“It is unacceptable that airlines have been asked to cancel flights to/from Gatwick Airport until 2 October.”

“It is the most basic requirement to hire and train adequate staff numbers including standby coverage,” the airline added.

“We call on the CAA to immediately intervene and protect passengers from this ongoing UK ATC shambles.”
