Ryanair launches credit card
Ireland: Fast-growing carrier launches own credit card, with free flight incentive
Not content with being one of the fastest-growing airlines around, Ryanair moved into the world of finance yesterday when it launched its own credit card.
But while the airline will be offering free flights to anyone who buys goods using the Ryanair card, financial experts have dismissed it as “not good value”, adding that the interest rate on the card is expensive to say the least.
Cardholders will be given a free flight on any of the carrier’s routes when they make their first purchase using the card, and for every 10 flights bought on the card in a given year will entitle the customer to another free trip.
But, according to Mark Atherton of The Times, the annual interest rate of 15.9 per cent equates to four times the bank base rate and is nearly twice as expensive as many other credit cards.
And a spokesman for the finance research group Moneyfacts said: “Unless you are disciplined enough to pay off your credit card balance every month this card does not represent good value.”
