Ryanair lays out net carbon zero roadmap
Ryanair has outlined its decarbonisation plans, called Pathway to Net Zero.
It has identified four core strategic pillars to reach net carbon zero by 2050.
These are the increased use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), decarbonisation through technological and operational improvements, offsetting and better Air Traffic Management.
More than one-third of its decarbonisation will come from the increased use of SAF, and the airline is working with the EU and fuel suppliers to accelerate supply of SAF.
As part of this, Ryanair established the Ryanair Sustainable Aviation Research Centre in partnership with Trinity College Dublin..
The Pathway to Net Zero initiative also includes carbon capture offset projects.
Ryanair’s Director of Sustainability, Thomas Fowler, said: “While we’ve already come a long way, we will continue to lead the sustainable aviation agenda in European aviation.”
