Scott Morrison front runner for Bruce Baird’s seat
With Liberal MP Bruce Baird announcing his retirement from politics at the Federal Election, it appears that the abrupt decision by the 65-year-old former State Minister to throw in the towel has set in train quite a seat preselection tussle and as predicted in TravelMole last year that he would stand for Parliament, Scott Morrison, former MD of Tourism Australia who was fired by Liberal Federal Minister Fran Bailey, but is understood to be very close to John Howard, appears to the front runner.
Bruce Baird is retiring after 20 years in state and federal politics and Mr Baird told The Australian that he was ready to “pass the baton” to his son Mike, who won the state seat of Manly, on Sydney’s northern beaches, at last month’s NSW election, adding, “I have been thinking about retiring for the past year,” adding, “I think the government will be returned (but) we may lose a bit of bark.”
Mr Baird said one of his few regrets was failing to reach ministerial rank in the Howard Government.
