Short break planning adds to stress levels
Last minute planning of short breaks leaves almost half of people stressed out, new research claims.
The findings of a poll by Post Office travel services shows that 46% of people experience high levels of stress preparing for their holidays while 61% leave less than a week to prepare for their trip.
More than a third (34%) of men are unlikely to take out travel insurance for a short break, compared to just 16% of women.
Meanwhile, nearly a quarter (22%) of men are concerned about sightseeing activities while on holiday, while 13% of women fret about the house before they depart.
For 18% of those taking short breaks, travel insurance is viewed as nothing more than an additional expense, particularly when trying to keep associated costs to a minimum, according to the research.
The results come as an estimated 20 million people plan short breaks to coincide with the autumn school half-term.
Post Office head of travel services Hugh Stacey said: “The advice from the Post Office is don’t be short-sighted when it comes to short breaks.
“Whether you are going away for a couple of days or a fortnight’s holiday, you are just as susceptible to theft, loss or accidents. Make sure you avoid unwanted stress on holiday and enjoy your well-earned break by taking out adequate travel insurance before you leave.”
