Singapore Airlines tweaks seatbelt policy following turbulence incident

Tuesday, 28 May, 2024 0

Singapore Airlines has amended its policy on in-flight seatbelt use following the severe turbulence incident that killed a British passenger and injured dozens more.

The airline will not serve passengers food and drink when the seatbelt sign is on, it said.

“SIA will continue to review our processes, as the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance.”

It is taking a more ‘cautious approach.’

It applies to at least one flight route.

The airline has not flown again over the area above Myanmar where the incident took place, according to flight tracking data.

The London-Singapore flight was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members when the turbulence struck and had to be diverted to Bangkok.

Forty-six were taken to hospital with some suffering spinal cord and brain injuries
