Singapore to allow larger events for up to 250 attendees

Saturday, 07 Sep, 2020 0

Singapore will permit larger exhibitions and conventions from next month.

Medium sized MICE events for up to 250 participants will be allowed from 1 October.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said it will start accepting applications for events as part of a pilot scheme to help gradually restart an important industry in the city state.

STB and the Ministry of Trade and Industry will carefully review all applications for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions.

Organisers must be able to guarantee strict hygiene measures and safe attendee management operations.

The pilot scheme will permit a limited number of events and data and insights collected from these will go towards forming new rules and guidelines for safe large-scale business events

One of the pilot events will be the Singapore International Energy Week Conference which takes place next month.

"This move to start accepting applications to pilot events of up to 250 attendees also takes into account the importance of the MICE industry as well as the strong industry interest in and demand for business events," STB said.

"Our determination is that we want Singapore to remain as the top business hub in Asia. We want to continue to strengthen our position as the MICE location of choice," said Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry.

According to STB data, the MICE industry supports more than 34,000 jobs.
