Singapore to continue cruises to nowhere after Covid scare

Wednesday, 10 Dec, 2020 0

Singapore cruises to nowhere will continue as planned after a suspected Covid case which cut short a Royal Caribbean sailing turned out to be a false alarm.

The elderly guest who first tested positive has since tested negative three times since the ship returned to port.

That sparked a ‘swift and robust response’ from authorities, said the Singapore Tourism Board.

"The incident has given us valuable learnings for future sailings, such as the importance of using TraceTogether for effective contact tracing," said Keith Tan, STB’s CEO.

"It has also given assurance that our established response to any future Covid-19 case is swift and effective."

Tan praised Royal Caribbean International and the terminal operator for the ‘timely execution’ of their emergency measures.

"Their professionalism gives us confidence that our pilot cruises will continue to be safe and sustainable," Tan added.

Royal Caribbean had already cancelled its 10 December sailing but will resume again with the next sailing on 14 December.
