Singapore travel agency Konsortium Express shuts down
Another Singapore travel agency has abruptly shut down, citing financial difficulties.
Without apparent warning Konsortium Express and Tours has closed down.
According to a notice posted outside its office, it is in ‘financial crisis and will cease operation on all services with immediate effect.’
"We are deeply apologetic for the sudden closure and we seek for forgiveness," the company said.
It advised all customers with forward bookings to contact their travel insurer or apply to the small claims tribunal to seek refunds.
The agency specialised in bus trips to Malaysia.
"We are looking into the matter and will not preclude taking further actions should there be reasonable grounds to suspect any contraventions of the relevant legislation," Ong Ling Lee, Director of travel agents and tourist guides at the Singapore Tourism Board told Channel News Asia.
Agency Chan Brothers Travel has stepped in to help affected customers and has offered a 10% ‘goodwill discount.’
"While sudden business closure is not peculiar only to the travel industry, Chan Brothers Travel aims to help affected customers of Konsortium Express and Tours mitigate their losses and resume their travel plans," it said.
