Skyscanner trials ‘Road Trips’ AI-powered driving itineraries

Saturday, 27 Jul, 2021 0

Trip.com Group owned travel marketplace Skyscanner has unveiled its new beta AI-powered travel planner called Road Trips.

It is in partnership with Inspirock, an AI-powered personalised itinerary platform.

The Road Trips offering combines Skyscanner’s booking services with Inspirock’s AI personalisation engine for sightseeing and activities, which they say allows travellers to easily plan the perfect road trip.

It includes selecting optimal routes, accommodations and car hire options, as well as the most suitable itinerary for leisure and activities..

Skyscanner says the goal was to deliver an end-to-end road trip planner with tailored recommendations for everything from where to stay to what to see and do.

It tapped Inspirock foor its AI algorithms and global reach in over 80,000 destinations worldwide, which enables personalised itineraries for travellers based on their unique interests, destination choice and trip duration.

Paul Cumins, Head of Car Hire at Skyscanner, said: "While we are already seeing air travel pick up more momentum, many travelers are opting for driving holidays, reviving the road trip and discovering (or rediscovering) places closer to home.

"We wanted to partner with Inspirock because of their unique AI engine and algorithmic approach. This allowed us to rapidly launch and scale Road Trips in five major countries with over 600,000 unique itineraries."

Road Trips is currently live as a beta and available on the Skyscanner platform in five countries: the United States, the UK, Australia, Canada, and Ireland.

It automatically generates a selection of real itineraries with travel times, stops, accommodations, activities, and more based on personalisation.
