Spirit Airlines apologizes for ‘Never A Better Time To Fly’ marketing mishap
Low fare carrier Spirit Airlines was scrambling Thursday to explain itself after a poorly worded email promotion was sent out to customers.
The ‘Never A Better Time To Fly’ promotion was sent out in error, the airline said, given the current situation.
It went out to about 25% of its email subscribers before the airline managed to halt it.
The airline apologized for the snafu after some angry comments on social media.
"We apologize for the email that was sent earlier today. It was written prior to the current situation and unfortunately sent. We are closely monitoring covid-19 and taking precautions to keep our guests & team members safe," the airline tweeted.
According to Spirit spokesperson Field Sutton, it was ‘created ages ago.’
"It’s been all hands on deck here trying to halt that distribution once it was set in motion. Though we’re in the business of selling plane tickets, we’re not in the business of being disingenuous," Sutton told Business Insider.
Coronavirus fears notwithstanding, it is in fact a fairly good time to fly for bargain hunters.
Airlines have been slashing fares to boost margins which are being crippled by the coronavirus crisis.
Budget carrier Frontier Airlines is offering up to 90% off regular fares on nearly all its routes available for booking through Monday March 16.
