STENA LINE ANNOUNCES SIX MONTH FIGURES ON IRISH SEA ROUTES

Monday, 12 Aug, 2004 0

LEADING ferry company Stena Line has announced its Irish Sea volumes for the first six months of 2004. Compared to the same period last year, passenger and car volumes across Stena Line’s five routes from Britain to Ireland are both up by 4% while the company also carried 17% more coaches. These figures come on the back of an unprecedented increase in freight business of some 44%, as reported last week. The increased business equates to almost 50,000 additional passengers, more than 10,000 additional cars and over 1,000 extra coaches. The arrival of the Stena Adventurer on the Holyhead to Dublin Port route and the purchase of the Fleetwood to Larne route in April this year have played a big part in a successful six months which confirms Stena Line’s position as the market leading ferry company on the Irish Sea. Stena Line’s Fredrik Lantz, Irish Sea Area Director, is naturally pleased with the company’s performance so far this year. “The first six months of 2004 have been very successful for Stena Line and we have managed to increase market share and volumes despite intense competition from other operators and our main competitors – the airlines,” said Fredrik. “This growth is a result of the investments we have made and the extremely high levels of service that we offer on board all of our ships. Also these figures show that by providing fast ferries coupled with a new and relaxing travel experience, vehicle owners especially like the freedom and flexibility associated with taking the car,” he added. Stena Line operates the biggest fleet with the biggest choice of route from Britain to Ireland including Holyhead to Dublin Port or Dun Laoghaire, Fishguard to Rosslare, Stranraer to Belfast and Fleetwood to Larne. The company carries more than three million passengers each year, more than its rival ferry operators combined.
