Steve Wynn announces new Philly casino
Steve Wynn has announced plans to build a casino in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia.
Globest.com reports that Wynn Resorts Ltd. will file plans with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on November 15 for approval to build a 150,000-square-foot casino featuring 100 table games and a 300-room all suites hotel on about 60 acres of surrounding property.
Wynn’s prepared statement said, "We are excited about Philadelphia and the opportunity afforded by our piece of property on the banks of the Delaware River. It allows for a luxury hotel complex and the introduction of the Wynn brand to Philadelphia. Our proposed resort begins with a hotel, retail esplanade, restaurants and entertainment, and can grow as the market progresses and we build a clientele."
The Philadelphia Gaming Control Board decided to allow the city two casino slots in 2006. One went to HSO Gaming’s SugarHouse Casino in September 2010. The other would have gone to the $600-million Foxwoods complex (of which Wynn was a one-time partner) but the license was revoked when the Foxwoods project fell apart.
Wynn says he hopes the new casino will bring people from outside the city into Philadelphia and that he is hoping to "create a resort of a caliber not currently in existence on the eastern seaboard."
