Striking Ryanair pilots claim airline is threatening to remove their perks

Ryanair has allegedly threatened to remove benefits from pilots who are taking part in the ongoing industrial action.

Pilots who are members of the British Airline Pilots Association walked out yesterday for 48 hours.

They are also due to strike again on September 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29. The pilots also went out on strike last month.

BALPA said Ryanair has now threatened to remove their benefits, including travel benefits for 12 months. The union says Ryanair is also threatening to make ‘inflated, potentially unlawful’ deductions from striking pilots’ salaries.

According to the European Cockpit Association, Ryanair is also suing 10 Ryanair pilots, who are Irish union representatives, for alleged damages.

Since the first round of action in August, BALPA claims Ryanair has refused to meet the union for talks at the conciliation service ACAS.

BALPA said it hopes to meet with Ryanair tomorrow or on Monday, but it hasn’t heard from the airline.

BALPA general secretary, Brian Strutton, said: "Instead of seeking to resolve the current impasse via negotiation, Ryanair seems hell bent on prolonging the dispute by threatening pilots with the removal of staff travel benefits and inflated and draconian deductions from salary."
