Strong January for Solomon Islands visitation
Tourism Solomons celebrated its best January for inbound tourism since 2019.
Latest Solomon Islands National Statistics Office (SINSO) data shows a total of 1,318 visitors in January, a 13.4% increase compared to January 2023.
While it was short of the record 1,750 in January 2019, Tourism Solomons Acting CEO Dagnal Dereveke said it proves the inbound tourism recovery is well under way.
“We are hopeful, on the back of a concerted marketing effort in tandem with partner Solomon Airlines, 2024 will be the year when our efforts are realised.”
The Solomons’ 2024 marketing strategy is focused on short haul markets in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji, Dereveke said.
Australian arrivals again dominated the figures, representing on-third of total visitation.
Papua New Guinea and Fiji remain in joint second position followed by the USA and New Zealand respectively.
