Taiwan showcasing culture and sustainable tourism at WTM London
Taiwan has launched a comprehensive new tourism strategy with a ‘Sustainable X Digital’ transformation.
This initiative aims to enhance visitor experiences while safeguarding the island’s natural and cultural heritage, it says.
Taiwan wants to highlight green and community-focused travel.
This approach will channel tourism revenues back into local communities, supporting a more sustainable industry.
Taiwan tourism leaders say arrival from the UK are up 33%, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
To build on this momentum, Taiwan has launched the ‘Waves of Wonder’ campaign, showcasing natural beauty and culture highlighted with an orange wave symbol.
Popular scenic spots are monitored with real-time crowd control and eco-friendly transport options are offered to reduce environmental impacts.
Access to protected areas, such as Turtle Island is controlled to ensure ecosystem preservation.
To promote green travel, Taiwan is improving public transportation, including the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle, which connects major hubs to scenic spots, helping reduce the use of private cars.
A key focus of the strategy is empowering local communities to develop unique tourism experiences.
“Taiwan is a treasure trove of unique experiences for travellers,” said Linda Lin, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Administration London Office.
“We’re thrilled by the growth in UK interest and believe our new strategy will attract travellers seeking authentic adventures.”
The Taiwan Tourism Administration will continue to participate in international tourism shows, host promotional events, and enhance digital and social media efforts.
The tourism agency will be present at the World Travel Market between the 5-7Â of November and will host an immersive cultural experience at its Pavilion.
The Happy Hour event will take place on Wednesday, 6 November themed around a traditional tea house and aligned with the new ‘Waves of Wonder’ Taiwan tourism branding.
There will be live performances and interactive activities such as oilpaper umbrella painting, and tile painting.
Attendees can also explore Taiwan’s famed tea culture including bubble tea.
