Taking operators online
A software solutions company has designed an internet booking engine specifically for tour operators.
The Sell-It Package software, designed by Cardiff-based RWA, includes an internet booking engine, which allows customers to buy package holidays online. Customers can search by destination, departure airport, or look for deals under different holiday types.
RWA director, Mark Bradbury told TravelMole: “A lot of tour operators are not online yet, and are still selling holidays over the phone”. Mr Bradbury says that what makes Sell-It different from other solutions on the market is its flexibility.
“Firstly, our branding feature means that tour operators that sell holidays under different trading names can operate a number of websites that sell from a single booking engine. The consumer will be presented with a different website for each brand; let’s say BalaericTours.com, or Longhaultrips.com, for example, but will have access to the same booking engine. This is something that we think has been previously unavailable”.
“Secondly, this internet booking engine is tried and tested. We developed it for FTI Touristik, a My Travel owned operator in Germany. So it is used in over 650 agency websites in Germany”.
Sell-It Package will be available from mid-November, and RWA plans to launch similar solutions for booking flights and car rental in the future. Because the solution is web services and XML-based, tour operators can adapt their website to include elements such as city guides or events listings.
The software will create a website for tour operators that don’t already have one, or provide a booking engine for existing websites. Mr Bradbury said: “Sell-It is a chameleon. It will adapt to the feel and look of the existing website”.
Although Mr Bradbury said that the cost would be lower than other solutions, he could not provide an estimate, but said he thought RWA’s solution would persuade a number of tour operators to “bite the bullet and start selling online”.
