Teletext clamps down on hidden holiday charges
Teletext is taking measures to ensure all advertised holidays carry no hidden extra charges.
The company has issued a ‘three strikes and you are out’ policy aimed at ensuring all holidays advertised on its service are fully inclusive of compulsory charges.
Teletext carries out random checks to ensure all prices within the holiday search are inclusive of all compulsory charges.
If a check fails, the exclusion tariff at present stands at a minimum of two hours for price increases and sold out offers, and a minimum of four hours for additional compulsory charges.
Any advertiser that now fails to include additional compulsory charges will be excluded from advertising on the service for a minimum of 24 hours on the third such failure.
Teletext said its compliance team will also notify trade bodies where advertisers are adding charges onto the headline price.
Teletext Holidays managing director Matt Cheevers said: “Back in December, when we launched our clear pricing strategy, advertisers were informed that changes were on the horizon.
“Since then, our team has been working extensively with advertisers to ensure that fully inclusive pricing structures are in place.
“Our new policy is designed to formally reinforce this and penalise those advertisers that do not adhere to the guidelines. Ultimately the price the customer sees on the service is the price they should pay for their holiday.”
