Thai Jungle Curry – in the Jungle
Thailand’s luxurious Sarojin resort has launched a new and very tempting menu of cooking classes, in in a choice of inspiring locations, which will also reveal the secrets of authentic Thai cooking.
The local market is the first port of call where the Resort’s chef helps guests buy produce and taste a selection of ingredients, before learning to prepare a series of fragrant dishes in one of several locations, including the resort’s gardens, on a nearby riverbank, at a local restaurant or beside a waterfall in the surrounding jungle.
Thankfully, after all that hard work, the classes end with a joint lunch at which everyone can enjoy their work with certificates are presented and partners welcome to join in the feast.
Dishes taught include yam nuae yang (grilled beef salad), tom yam goong (spicy prawn soup), keang kiew warn gai (green chicken curry with egg plant) and kaow suay (perfectly steamed white rice).
Guests can also learn the Thai art of fruit carving, in which elaborate table decorations are created from intricately carved fruits and vegetables.
Located an hour north of Phuket International Airport, The Sarojin is an exclusive collection of 56 spacious ‘guest residences’, with each designed to have the feel of staying at a friend’s private estate.
Recently named “Asia’s Leading Boutique Hotel” at the World Travel Awards 2006 and placed among the world’s best new hotels and spas in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler ‘Hot List’ for 2006, The Sarojin offers three types of residences, many with their own plunge or bath pools.
All have air conditioning, king beds, timber floors, en-suite garden bathrooms, couples baths, twin vanity and dressing areas, rain showers, TV with DVD, CD and stereo, and complimentary broadband and wireless internet access.
Guests can choose from several dining options at The Sarojin, including the elegant Ficus restaurant which overlooks a lotus pond from its position beneath an ancient ficus tree.
They can enjoy also beach and ocean views from the Edge, an open-sided timber pavilion serving fresh local produce, or choose any number of idyllic locations for private dining and in-room service.
