TMCs rush to take up staff security technology
Travel Management Companies are rushing to sign up for Sabre’s employee security technology in the wake of new UK legislation that will penalise companies which do not fulfil their duty of care to staff.
The GDS says six TMCs have signed up in the last few weeks to use its Traveler Security and Data Suite.
It allows corporate travel managers and agencies to quickly locate employees travelling around the globe, and more have shown “significant interest†and are expected to be signing up in the weeks ahead.
The Corporate Manslaughter Act came into force on April 6. It makes companies responsible for the death of an employee it they do not fulfil their appropriate duty of care which means keeping them safe and protected and making sure they are traceable at all times. The penalty for non-compliance is heavy fines and prosecution.
Agencies that have signed up so far include Business Travel Direct, Giles Travel, Norad Travel, Redfern Travel, Wayte Travel Management and Chambers Travel Management.
Senior vice president of Sabre Travel Network EMEA Martin Cowley said: “Sabre’s Traveler Security and Data Suite provides secure access to travel data, complete reservation information, and detailed travel reports to help corporate travel agents and travel managers quickly locate all employees and take action in case of an event or natural disaster anywhere in the world.â€
Business Travel Direct CEO Peter Reglar added: “The product has expedited the process of locating travellers which we put to good use during the recent crash-landing of a BA plane at Heathrow. Within minutes we were able to establish that none of our clients had passengers on board.â€
