TNT launches online travel auction
TNT Magazine is launching a travel auction website, offering tour operators the chance to sell their products on a ‘no sale, no fee’ commission basis.
Following the same style as eBay, consumers can bid online for tours, flights, package holidays, car hire and accommodation with prices limited by a reserve or starting bid.
Operators already signed up to provide content include Thomson, Contiki and On The Go Tours.
TNT’s managing director Mark Goddard “It will provide travel agencies and operators with the opportunity to transact in a variety of ways, whether it be to use the site as a shopfront for its goods via the ‘buy it now’ functionality or just to offload excess stock to promote great offers via the auction software.
“With a significant marketing push via many mainstream multimedia brands, it also provides an attractive way for operators and agencies to introduce new customers to their brand.
“The site works on a straightforward commission basis, with a ‘no sale, no fee’ pricing strategy.
“While we expect our traditional TNT readership and client base to form the backbone of support for this initiative, we expect it to generate a substantial new audience of travellers and clients who had previously never ventured to our website or into our market.”
The site has teamed up with the Guardian newspaper, with TNT offering its auction content to the Guardian readership.
