Tourists fined for ‘dangerous’ dingo selfies
Two tourists have been fined for what authorities called ‘reckless and extremely dangerous selfies with dingoes.
Two Australian women in their 20s were each fined $1,500.
They were reported to the Queensland Department of Environment after the images were posted online.
They were on the island of K’gari posing with the wild dogs.
Some of them were pups.
“She was lucky the mother of the pups wasn’t nearby,” said Queensland DoE compliance manager Mike Devery.
“Those who blatantly ignore the rules for social media attention can expect a fine or a court appearance,” Devery said.
He said one of the posted images showed them ‘recklessly’ lying down with dingo pups.
There have been several recent attacks by dingoes.
Last week three dingoes set upon a jogger with one suffering serious injuries.
