Train derailment kills 50 in Taiwan
A train travelling a high speed cane off the rails in a tunnel in Taiwan’s worst train disaster for decades. At least 50 people were confirmed dead and about 70 injured passengers are being treated in hospital. One French national was killed.
It is thought a construction truck slid down an embankment onto the track and hit the train just as it entered the tunnel.
The train was packed with nearly 500 people travelling home or for a long weekend beak during Taiwan’s Tomb Sweeping Day public holiday.
