Former Caribtours managing director Catherine Leech is managing a new website featuring the world’s 101 best holidays.
Â
Leading travel writers David Wickers and Mark Hodson have downloaded their experience and expertise into the www.101holidays.co.uk website.
Â
They have also selected this year’s top travel experiences for UK holidaymakers.
Â
A visual search allows users to browse through the chosen 101 holidays.
Â
Travel companies are charged a fee to appear on the site, but each has been individually selected for its expertise and excellence, according to the company.
Â
Holidays featured range from bed and breakfasts on the Isle of Wight and self-catering on the Île de Ré, and holidays of a lifetime (Orient Express to Venice, Monaco Grand Prix, polar bears in the Arctic) as well as offbeat trips (rafting the Soca River in Slovenia, surfing in Bahia).
Â
It also includes advice on the best ways to experience classic journeys as a cruise on the Nile and trekking in Nepal.
Â
Holidays can be searched by image, as well as by price range, type of experience and destination.
Â
Users are presented with the editors’ verdict and a short description of the holiday. To find out more they can click through to the recommended company’s website.
Â
An ‘Ask The Experts’ forum for travel-related questions, advice and dilemmas is also provided where emails will be personally answered by the two writers.
Â
Wickers said: “We have pooled our knowledge of the holiday scene to make what had to be a ruthless cull. The site is simple: it aims to present choices of where to go, and which travel company does it best.â€
Â
Hodson added: “There are thousands of tour operators and destinations out there, all vying for your custom, and it’s a struggle to know where to go, and who you should book with.
Â
“Searching online can be frustrating and confusing. We’ve simplified the whole process by selecting our take on the best around the world.â€
Â
Leech, who manages the business on a day to day basis, has more than 25 years’ experience in the travel industry in both marketing and tour operating roles.
