TravelMole Interview: Wayne Morrison, director of sales and community relations, CanJet
Here’s an airline that still maintains a good relationship with travel agents, according to Wayne Morrison, director of sales and community relations for the Canadian-based CanJet. “They’ve (travel agents) been supportive of the airline since we launched it in June of 2002. We have an excellent rapport and we view them as being very pivotal to our on-growing growth,” he told TravelMole. The airline allows agents to fly at “dramatically reduced rates,” he said. The airline also every quarter or so does promotions such as offering free airline tickets to agents. “Our sales manager are also working daily in the field with them to have on-going dialogue and communications with the travel agent community. We also visit them on a regular basis,” he said. The fast-growing CanJet began operations with three planes and three destinations; they now have almost a dozen destinations. Their latest was an announcement that service would begin from Hamilton to both Montreal and Ottawa 19 April, a move that marks the Halifax-based CanJet’s arrival in the Ontario city. Since WestJet recently stopped going there, CanJet will be the only airline providing direct service from Hamilton to Montreal and Ottawa. CanJet officials said one reason for the route is the robust population of 2.1 million people in the Hamilton area. Mr Morrison said CanJet will be announcing more new service in the next few months, probably between Canada and the US. “We think many of the corridors there are underserved,” he said, adding that CanJet is a low-cost airline that operates efficiently and has an excellent on-time record.
