TravelMole reveals extent of internet use by agents
Travel agency staff at all levels are using the internet for research, according to the results of TravelMole’s agency survey. The survey findings suggest that internet and email access is available at work to 93% of agents, and this has been the case for over two years according to 78% of respondents. This is significantly higher than the figures of around 70%, regularly quoted in the industry. These figures are somewhat to be expected, owing to the fact that the survey was only accessible online, but what came as a surprise was the fact that access is not limited to certain employees. The respondents were split evenly between the roles of owner/director, agency manager and customer advisor, all of which had internet access. The vast majority of respondents (86%) worked for independent agencies, about half of which were in the south of England. Of those that responded from multiples and miniples, two-thirds said that all members of staff had internet access and email use. This suggests that business development through web use prevails in all areas of the travel agency segment. In essence the TravelMole survey has revealed a population of agents who are both entirely equipped for, and experienced in using the internet for business purposes. TravelMole.com undertook the survey in 2003 to establish the extent of travel agency use of the internet. The survey set out to discover the extent of internet use by agents, and most importantly, which levels of personnel had internet access at their place of work. The survey took the form of an online questionnaire on travelmole.com. TravelMole subscribers were asked to take part, with the incentive of a prize draw for a bottle of champagne to one in every fifty respondents. The survey was launched proper in September 2003, and was re-built in late November for TravelMole’s new backoffice. Did the results surprise you?
