Trinidad tourists could be target for terrorism
The Caribbean island of Trinidad could become the latest front in the so-called “war on terror” after an announcement, allegedly by an extreme Islamic group, that it is making biological and chemical weapons and is prepared to use them against tourists.
A report in The Independent claims that two reporters for the island’s main newspaper were taken blindfolded to a chemicals factory, where they were shown materials it was claimed could be made into nerve gas and other toxins.
The group made the following statement to the Trinidad Express: “With our weapons we are going to reach you. We will reach you where you sleep, we will reach you where you take your baths, we will reach you where you take your meals and have your drinks, even a glass of water you hold in your hand may not be safe.”
The shipping firm P&O is now keeping tourists away from the island.
The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office website reads: “We believe Trinidad and Tobago to be one of a number of countries where there may be an increased terrorist threat. British nationals should exercise vigilance, particularly in public places frequented by foreigners such as hotels, restaurants and shopping malls.”
