TSA to enhance cybersecurity measures after Russia hack
The U.S. transportation security agency said it will publish new cybersecurity standards for aviation systems following numerous airport websites were hacked.
Pro-Russian hackers claimed responsibility for the DDoS attacks, but flight operations were not affected.
TSA had previously ‘updated its aviation security programs to require airport and airline operators designate a cybersecurity coordinator’
Operators must report cybersecurity incidents, conduct a cybersecurity assessment, and develop measures and incident response plans.’
TSA will now ‘soon issue additional performance-based cybersecurity requirements.’
Separately, the Federal Aviation Administration said last month that airport grants are subject to sufficiently addressing ‘physical and cyber security risks relevant to the type and scale of the project.’
The Government Accountability Office said in a 2020 report there had been no successful cyberattacks on any plane’s avionics systems.
