TUI wins court battle over holiday sickness claim
A man has been ordered to pay TUI £10,000 by the courts for a false holiday sickness claim.
Jadeep Singh, 34, from Salford, Manchester, stayed at the all-inclusive Beach Palace, Cancun, Mexico in November 2015.
Travelling with a big wedding party, he claimed he had suffered illness caused by food and drink at the hotel.
But he failed to disclose any photos from the wedding or his holiday and also declined to bring any documents.
An investigation by TUI revealed evidence that contradicted the claim and Manchester County Court found him to be fundamentally dishonest.
He was ordered to pay £10,000, with additional costs on an indemnity basis
"We have again showed our commitment in the fight against fraudulent holiday sickness claims," said Andrew Flintham, managing director at TUI UK & Ireland.
"Despite the efforts we must go through to defend our industry and hotel partners we will continue to do so as we have a duty of care to protect honest holidaymakers.
"In this case the court has found that Jadeep Singh has brought a claim that is fundamentally dishonest and he has been ordered to pay our costs. We will continue to fight this issue bringing any similar cases to a court hearing and we hope that this sends out a clear message to anyone else considering making a fake sickness claim."
