Turning 150 brochures into one
Worldchoice agents will be able to create a mini electronic brochure that is catered specifically to clients with new technology made available to them.
The consortium has signed a deal with TravelMedia, the sister company to BP Travel Marketing Services, to provide it with the e-brochure technology. Worldchoice is the first consortium to sign up to the product.
TravelMedia sales director Colin McKee told TravelMole: “The issue for independent agents is that people will walk into a shop and walk out with a handful of brochures and probably not come back in to make the booking. This technology enables agents to complete the booking.”
Agents can use the product to search together with a client for hotels by various categories including resort and lifestyle preferences such as a swimming pool or kids club. It searches the TravelMedia database of hotels, which incorporates product sold by 40 operators – amounting to around 150 brochures.
The agent then compiles a brochure that is branded with the company’s logo, website and contact details and emailed to the client. Alternatively it can be printed out for the client to take home or placed on a website for the client to download.
Cosmos is also using TravelMedia’s e-brochure technology and has enabled customers to compile their own brochure by making the technology available on its website.
Worldchoice is calling the product “YourBrochure” and will launch it next month. Worldchoice IT director, John Lawrence says it should help agents curb the tendency for customers to book direct. “As no direct sell numbers or websites are quoted on the mini-ebrochures, this will mean that business is directed back into the agency, something which I am sure will delight our members”, he said.
He added that while the consortium is embracing e-brochures, he thought traditional paper brochures would never be fully replaced.
