An investigation is underway following the death of two workers at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility.

A tire explosion killed two employees and seriously injured one more at the wheel and brake shop near Delta’s main Atlanta hub.

Police and fire crews responded to the accident in the maintenance hangar.

“Delta is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility,” the airline said.

“We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues.”

Delta is cooperating with local authorities on a full investigation.

The Delta TechOps hangar is used for repair and maintenance work on its aircraft fleet as well as for other airline customers.

“We’re all in this together, and we’ll get through this by supporting each other,” said Delta Executive Vice President John Laughter, who has overall responsibility for Delta TechOps functions.
