US DOT allowing China airlines increase flights
The U.S. Department of Transportation will allow more direct flights into the country by Chinese airlines.
The department issued an order allowing Chinese carriers to boost weekly flights from eight to 12.
It matches the number of flights US airlines operate to China.
It marks ‘a gradual, broader reopening of the US-China air services market,’ the DOT order said.
It will ‘continue to assess when to further modify carrier flights that offers a competitive operating environment.’
American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines currently fly to China.
Xiamen Airlines, Air China, China Southern and China Eastern Airlines fly direct to the US.
