US may sue over Korean airline merger
The US could sue to restrict the airline merger of Asiana and Korean Air.
The Justice Department is considering filing a lawsuit as it believes it will shrink competition on US-Korea routes for passengers and cargo.
It would be a major move to attempt to block a foreign airline merger, rather than just decline approval for US-Korea routes.
According to sources, no decision has been made yet, Politico reports.
The Biden Administration has been cracking down on airline consolidation where it believes customer choice is diminished.
It is taking action against the JetBlue Airways-Spirit Airlines merger and JetBlue’s partnership with American Airlines.
Regulators in several countries including China and the UK have already cleared the merger.
