A US pilot was jailed for breaking a quarantine order in Singapore.
Brian Dugan Yeargan, 44, of Alaska, admitted ‘poor judgement’ by going out to buy medical supplies.
He was handed a term behind bars of four weeks, and is the first foreign citizen to be given a prison sentence in Singapore.
The city-state has strict quarantine rules and penalties for not wearing masks in public.
Breaking a quarantine order can lead to up to six months in prison.
Yeargan works for cargo company FedEx.
"In his address in court, Yeargan said he was sorry, he made a poor judgment and that he shouldn’t have gone out," lawyer Ronnie Tan told the AP.
He was ordered to undergo quarantine as he had previous travel history flying to China, Hong Kong, Macau, Japan and the US in the previous 14 days.
Singapore has more than 26,000 cases, which is one of the highest in Asia.
Singapore imposed a partial lockdown in early April and began easing restrictions last week.
