USAID joins Agoda, GSTC for hotel sustainability education
OTA Agoda, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have teamed up to deliver sustainability trainings for Asia hoteliers.
This sustainable tourism development initiative expands Agoda’s ongoing partnership with the GSTC, which has provided sustainability education for hundreds of hoteliers to date.
This has included training for hotels across India, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.
This new collaboration with USAID expands the training scope and geographic coverage to additional Asian markets.
It expands the instructor-led hotel sustainability training at five destinations in India, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, and the Philippines.
It will equip hoteliers with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance their hotel sustainability practices.
The three-way collaboration will also see the development of a self-paced digital hotel sustainability training platform offering localised, interactive learning modules.
Training comprises supplementary study materials and quizzes that address sustainability challenges across the region.
The learning materials on the platform will be available in English and regional languages.
The organisations will also launch a sustainability scholarship fund for select hotels across the region.
These will focus on hotels that are small, medium, and women-owned enterprises, to receive further training and obtain third-party sustainability GSTC certifications.
Omri Morgenshtern, CEO of Agoda, said: “It is our responsibility to raise awareness about Hotel sustainability are thrilled to support the industry”.
“Partnering with USAID will help elevate and scale our projects to reach even more markets across Asia.”
The fifth session of the instructor-led hotel sustainability training organised by Agoda and GSTC, and the first in partnership with USAID, will be held in Jaipur, India on March 28-29, 2024.
Interactive two-day training sessions will be held in all five countries and will allow hoteliers to learn from GSTC trainers and guest speakers.
