Value of travel agency firms rises
A study of the value of travel agency businesses has indicated a modest overall recovery for the sector.
The new pricing guide from business analysts Plimsoll Publishing studied the largest 1000 travel agents in the UK and found a 4% rise in average value.
The news was even better for companies with sales over 10 million, who have seen their value rise by 7%.
Of the agents studied, 289 firms have seen their value soar by 20% and 163 organisations have seen their value increase by 50%.
"This is a great barometer for the industry to measure the overall improvement in the market – albeit a modest increase in the average value," said David Pattison, senior analyst on the project.
But he said there are still signs that the travel agency market is a challenging landscape.
"Given the tough economic conditions of recent years, 208 firms are seeing their value fall by over a third and it’s clear the market is still highly competitive and this is impacting on the value of the companies."
