Warnie winds up Tufnell and the Barmy Army!
Tourism Minister Fran Bailey and Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland, launched a new tourism campaign featuring Shane Warne and Phil Tufnell last week, aimed at encouraging British tourists to visit Australia for the 3 mobile Ashes and beyond.
The campaign kicks off with a video message, filmed by Shane Warne in Melbourne, taunting Phil Tufnell about the forthcoming 3 mobile Ashes series, followed by a reply from Tufnell saying, ‘Don’t worry about where I am Shane, ask yourself how the bloody hell you’re going to get the Ashes back?’
The viral campaign follows in the footsteps of the take off of Tourism Australia’s “Where the Bloody Hell Are You Campaign”, by the Little Bali Hotel and Resort Company’s “Where the Bali Hell Are Your” viral campaign and enables Australians to email the footage to their friends in the United Kingdom.
There is also be a specially created website www.tuffersinoz.com where cricket fans can follow Phil Tufnell’s travels in Australia for the 3 mobile Ashes series and view the video clip.
Fran Bailey said, “The Ashes will bowl in a sporting and tourism bonanza for Australia with more than 40,000 English tourists descending upon Australia for the long-awaited series, spending up big in our hotels, restaurants and pubs,”
She added, “Over the next few weeks, Australians will be able to enjoy one of the greatest sporting contests – the Ashes – and with Warnie bowling like a legend, the Ashes are ripe to be brought back down under.” “The only thing left is to ask the English team, So Where the Bloody Hell Are the Ashes?”
To better appreciate the value of cricket to tourism, the Australian Government and Cricket Australia have agreed to jointly fund an economic analysis of the Ashes and this is part of a strengthened partnership in support of sports tourism and the Government, which has seen Tourism Australia initiatives such as:
An online travel planning tool to help English cricket fans plan their trips;
Specialist support for UK travel agents on the 3 mobile Ashes; and
Sponsorship of the ECB’s Ashes Series Guide.
