WestJet names new CEO
WestJet has a new chief executive.
Ed Sims, WestJet’s executive vice president of commercial has been named by the WestJet board to take over from Gregg Saretsky who announced he was retiring.
Sims only joined WestJet less than a year ago from Airways, which is the air navigation service provider of New Zealand.
He has 30 years’ experience in tourism and aviation and previously held senior positions with Air New Zealand, Virgin Group, and Thomas Cook.
Saretsky had been CEO for nearly eight years and joined the carrier in June 2009 as vice president of WestJet Vacations.
"For the past eight years, it’s been my privilege to lead team WestJet through a tremendous period of growth and success. With plans well underway for the launch of Swoop and the introduction of the 787-9 Dreamliners on the horizon, as well as the great work WestJetters do each day, I’m confident WestJet will continue to grow," Saretsky said.
