What’s new in Boston for 2023
It is set to be a big year ahead for US inbound travel in 2023.
The world has opened up and the key China is set to follow in the New Year.
Expect new activities, accommodations, and more opportunities to explore.
To whet the appetite, here’s what to expect in Boston, Massachusetts for 2023;
A 20x40ft sculpture dedicated to the late Martin Luther King Jr will be unveiled on Boston Common in January 2023. The Embrace is set to be as symbolic of Boston as the Bean is of Chicago. Dr King met his wife and co campaigner Coretta Scott King whilst they were both studying in Boston.
Designed by artist Hank Willis Thomas, the sculpture has taken 100 workers to create the final construction. Inspired by a photographic image of the couple just after Dr King had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the same year as his rally in Boston, the sculpture is meant to celebrate the work of both partners.
Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. The historic political protest took place on the 16 December 1773. 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India Company were thrown overboard in Boston Harbor by American Patriots disguised as Mohawk in protest against British taxation ‘without representation’ and the monopoly of the East India Company.
The Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences will be the first Raffles property in the US. Scheduled to open in May 2023 it is located in the Back Bay area within a stone’s throw of Newbury Street shopping as well as within easy reach of Boston’s beloved Fenway Park with its brand new MGM Music Hall.
The property will have 147 guestrooms and 146 branded residences in a 35 story tower. Hotel highlights include the Raffles Butler, and elegant and lively public spaces including a two-storey Sky Lobby, five food and beverage venues, a Raffles Spa and rooftop garden terrace.
