Wooing of ex-Concorde passengers begins
According to the Wall Street Journal, airlines are implementing a variety of innovations to woo Concorde passengers on the eve of the supersonic jet¹s retirement. The market between the US and the UK is estimated at $5 billion including the lucrative Concorde service, first and business classes.
Ingenuity will replace speed and superlative service in targeting prosperous travellers. British Airways will maintain its Concorde and First Class lounges along with a spa at both JFK and Heathrow airports. Many airlines already have perks in place for first class passengers. Door to door limo services, aircraft seats that convert to beds, pajamas, duvets, on board massages, drive through check-in, fast-track immigration, noise reducing headsets, and premium food and beverages are just some of the comforts. Airlines are also increasing, if not doubling frequent flyer mileage. BA topped this category by setting up household accounts where up to seven family members can trade miles.
Another alternative being pitched is private jet services. For those who can afford it, for a mere one time equity of $3.7 million for a guaranteed 100 hours per year, a 13 passenger Gulf Stream and be leased from NetJets.
