Asia dominates on the world’s busiest international routes.

It made up seven out of the top ten busiest routes in 2023 with the no 1 being the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur short cross-border flight.

There were almost five million scheduled airline seats available on the route in both directions.

The Cairo – Jeddah route was second busiest and Hong Kong – Taipei was third with 4.5 million seats.

The rankings were compiled by OAG, which produced a world map showing the top domestic and international routes based on seat volume.

In fact, there were three Singapore routes in the top 10 including to Jakarta and Bangkok.

There were also three routes to/from Seoul, South Korea.

Just one transatlantic route (New York JFK to London Heathrow) made the list as eighth busiest with 3.8 million scheduled seats.

South Korea had the top domestic route: : Seoul to holiday hotspot Jeju Island with almost 14 million seats, while three Japan domestic routes made the top 10.

Again, Asia-Pacific dominated with all but one route, which was Jeddah – Riyadh as the world’s eighth busiest.
