WTTC slams governments for China Covid tests

Monday, 08 Jan, 2023 0

The WTTC joined other tourism bodies in condemning China Covid tests.

It comes as China opened borders for travel.

Julia Simpson, WTTC CEO, said: “After nearly three years, it is great news that China is finally opening up.”

The recovery of the Chinese sector is very welcome.”

The reintroduction of ‘ineffective’ tests is a ‘step backwards.’

“Governments have learned nothing about the virus and continue to ignore the WHO’s advice,” Simpson said.

The WTTC reaction follows criticism by A4E (Airlines for Europe) IATA and ACI EUROPE against China Covid tests for flights into Europe.

Chinese visitors contributed about $253 billion to the global economy in 2019, the WTTC says.
