Raffles Singapore is pleased to announce that it has been named No. 17 on the prestigious and first-ever “The World’s 50 Best Hotels” list. The awards aim to recognise outstanding and best-in-class experiences hotels from all over the world have to offer, and to celebrate the individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen. Organised by 50 Best, whose parent company is reputed publishing company William Reed, this inaugural list is independently curated by The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy based on their opinions and experiences. It comprises a group of 580 seasoned and esteemed hotel and travel industry experts led by a group of nine Academy chairs, all hailing from all corners of the globe. On 19 September, the world of travel gathered at the historic Guildhall to unveil the outstanding hotel experiences across the world that will shape the aspirations of travellers and hoteliers. First opened in 1887, and declared a National Monument a century later by the Singapore Government in 1987, the storied, 136-year-old legacy of Raffles Singapore has been a significant part of Singapore’s history, its neo-Renaissance halls simultaneously and artfully reflecting the charms of yesteryear and the luxuries of the contemporary age. Through the hotel’s evolution, it has strived to uphold its old-world splendour matched with inimitable service across the hotel’s array of offerings., “We are humbled and excited to have found a place among this esteemed collection of outstanding and beyond the every-day luxury hospitality destinations. To be included in this list and to have received this prestigious industry recognition from The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy is a realisation of aspirations that we had when the hotel embarked on its two year’ restoration project four years ago. This global recognition is a true validation of our legendary and timeless Raffles experience, delivered by the wonderful team we have in Singapore,” said Christian Westbeld, Managing Director, Raffles Singapore. “It makes all of us immensely proud that our world-renowned service delivering always-relevant and ever-evolving experiences have transcended Singapore’s shores and are being recognised by the Academy – we are also honoured to not only be flying the Raffles brand flag high, but also proudly representing Singapore on a global stage,” Mr Westbeld continued. “It is an incredible honour that our flagship Raffles Singapore has been recognised as one of the World’s 50 Best Hotels in the inaugural list. Raffles Singapore has long been a leader within the luxury hospitality space, setting new standards for impeccable guest relations. This is where our distinctive Raffles Experiences come into play, which weave immersive wellness activities with cultural journeys, thus helping to lead the way for Raffles Hotels, Resorts and Residences globally. I cannot express my sincere gratitude enough for our management and hotel staff who have made achieving this accolade possible. This prestigious acknowledgement is a testament to their skill and dedication to upholding the hotel’s storied 136-year heritage by providing guests with gracious service and unforgettable journeys at every visit,” says Omer Acar, CEO Raffles & Orient Express. Tim Brooke-Webb, Managing Director for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, comments: “Our heartfelt congratulations go out to every hotel on the list, each of which has clearly made a lasting impression on our Academy of travel experts. After seeing the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry, it’s been especially fulfilling to see so many hoteliers from around the world gather in London to celebrate each other’s achievements under one roof for the first-ever awards ceremony for The World’s 50 Best Hotels. We hope this list inspires travel lovers to book somewhere truly spectacular for their next trip.”Bringing the Raffles Experience to Life

Accor One Living will support the development and operation of branded residences – anchored by managed and franchised Accor hotels and resorts – and other unique products that add value to mixed-use projects, such as coworking offerings, extended stay hotels, private clubs and more. Creating synergy between these complementary hospitality products can significantly enhance the financial performance of a mixed-use project, while providing signature brand experiences for homeowners, guests, and community members.Accor One Living consolidates Accor’s leadership in the branded residences category. Currently, the Group has more than 135 branded residences projects operating or in development, across 22 distinct brands. Looking ahead, Accor One Living expects to open, in partnership with visionary owners around the world, more than 125 new branded residence communities over the next several years, including standout flagships such as The OWO Residences by Raffles in London, SO/ Uptown Dubai Residences and Raffles Residences Boston Back Bay. “Accor is carving a new path with the creation of Accor One Living, based on the tremendous success that we’ve earned as a leader in the branded residences and mixed-use category. Our momentum is powered by Accor’s diverse portfolio of compelling brands, a commitment to the success of our partners, and more than two decades of experience, where we have led the industry in creating highly desirable branded residence communities,” said Jeff Tisdall, Chief Business Officer, Accor One Living. “Accor One Living will deliver unmatched value to our investment partners as we build extraordinary places to live, work, and play for a new generation of homeowners, guests and global explorers.” Over the last five years, Accor has emerged as the #2 global player in the branded residences category. The importance of their satisfaction and loyalty is reflected in our industry-leading owners’ benefits program, recognizing our homeowners as VIPs wherever they travel within Accor’s global portfolio.”The OWO Residences by Raffles One of the key differentiators for Accor One Living is its delivery of end-to-end solutions for hospitality and real estate investment partners, providing comprehensive support that is truly turnkey – extending across the entire life cycle of each project. Beginning with the planning phase, Accor One Living works with its partners to ensure design, services and benefits are customized to meet the needs of targeted homebuyers. Finally, in the operating phase, Accor One Living will continue to provide essential support – making hotels more profitable for investment partners and enabling a residential experience for homeowners that would not be otherwise possible. The Accor One Living team is comprised of uniquely talented specialists, with decades of experience in branded residences and related mixed-use products. These specialists are organized regionally to ensure the Group’s development partners have access to the expertise they need in the markets where they will execute their strategies for mixed-use developments, standalone branded residences, or other unique products such as coworking spaces, private clubs, extended stay hotels, and more. Real estate investors and developers have long chosen to partner with Accor for the revenue boost that Accor’s powerful sales, distribution and loyalty platforms provide, and their satisfaction in knowing the Group has a brand that will comfortably match their project, their guest or homeowner profile, and their developments' unique, local aesthetic. Accor One Living further supports its residential development partners with the benefit of a dedicated website giving prospective homeowners the opportunity to explore Accor’s entire portfolio of branded residences around the world and connect directly with the sales and marketing teams of each project. A second website supports the homeowners of branded residences and investment partners with a tool for marketing the rental of private residences and extended stay hotel properties. “Apartments and Villas” is a leading example of how Accor One Living is tailoring distribution solutions to meet the needs of private rental offerings, while enabling guests to feel at home anywhere in the world. -

The Group offers its most sincere condolences to his loved ones and more particularly to his nephew, Gilles Pélisson, who has worked for Accor for 17 years, including five years leading the Group. Gérard was an iconic pioneer who, together with co-founder Paul Dubrule, inspired a modern approach to French hospitality at a time when it was poised for fresh ideas. During Les Trente Glorieuses, France’s post-war boom, a new, more modern world emerged, changing the face of travel. Drawing inspiration from the America way of life in the 1960s, Gérard and Paul took a bold approach to bringing their vision of a French-led world class enterprise, to life. Setting aside his engineering background and a budding career at IBM, Gérard seized an opportunity that would lay the foundation for today’s Accor. In 1967, alongside Paul, he established the very first modern, standardized hotel business model through the creation of Novotel in Lille Lesquin. The Novotel model was a truly revolutionary concept which was years ahead of its time. It offered guests a modern bedroom with en-suite bathroom and desk, a grill restaurant, swimming pool and breakfast, all for one rate. Something most hotels of the time did not provide. An astute businessman, Gérard tenaciously pursued opportunities to expand the Group’s portfolio. For over 40 years, he and Paul exemplified drive and determination in their pursuit of excellence, achieving major milestones including: establishing ibis in 1974, purchasing Mercure in 1975, and Sofitel in 1980; leading the merger with Jacques Borel in 1982; launching Formule 1 in 1985; integrating Lenôtre in 1990 and acquiring Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits et du Tourisme in 1991. These actions would become the cornerstones of our Group. Sébastien Bazin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Accor, said: “Gérard Pelisson was an entrepreneur par excellence. A true revolutionary of our industry who, together with Paul Dubrule, made Accor a global force to be reckoned with. With courage and determination, they fearlessly challenged conventions, reinvented hospitality, and forever altered the industry’s trajectory, making a global impact. Gérard’s legacy lives on at Accor and we will all endeavor to embrace his daring spirit, mirroring his pursuit of excellence and passion for business. His vision and heart will forever be with us!” To honor Gérard’s legacy, Accor teams from around the world will be paying tribute to using a virtual commemoration wall. Our thoughts are with the Pélisson family at this time. -
